Auditor's reports on railroad grade crossing abolition assessments, 1893-1932.

Series consists of reports, 1893-1926, sent to the state treasurer by the state auditor, citing the court decree confirming the commission's decision. Included are two related Treasury volumes (surviving solely on microfilm) detailing principal and interest payments made by municipalities to cover their assessed share of the expense to abolish local railroad grade crossings. Information includes date of decree, location, amount owed, interest, and annual payments. One volume is arranged roughly by municipality, with payments shown from 1894-1932. The second volume, arranged roughly by date of report, 1893-1911, lists the principal and interest payments through 1919. Occasional entries indicate that no municipal payments were made. Separate sections detail payments for numerous Boston projects at specified interest rates. For related records see: Massachusetts. Office of the Secretary of State.
